The Studio
Periwinkle Art Studio was opened in 2014 by mixed media artist Jennifer Evans. It is her strongly-held belief that art provides many benefits for everyone. Art brings joy, expresses emotion, offers brain boosting benefits, and a host of other positive results -- and it's FUN!
Jennifer has a bachelor's degree in Journalism/Advertising from Southern Illinois University. Throughout her career she has worked as a graphic designer, magazine publisher, art director and marketing/PR professional. She teaches photography and design at Round Lake High School.
Periwinkle Art Studio operated out of a small space in Millburn, Illinois. Jennifer offered classes in mixed media, watercolor, acrylic and collage. During the pandemic in 2020, she expanded to 16th Street Studios in Racine, Wisconsin.

In 2022, Jennifer partnered with Julie Adriansen to offer art retreats. The "Paint With Periwinkle" art retreats offer three full days of art instruction, all art supplies, overnight lodging, meals, and unique discoveries. The Colorado retreat features a visit to the Colorado National Monument and wine tastings at local vineyards. Art making sessions are led by both instructors and provide time to explore a variety of techniques.
The spring art retreat at 16th Street Studios includes tours, a visit to the Racine Art Museum, and interaction with local artists.
What participants have said about the art retreats:
"Jennifer and Julie were fantastic. It was so nice to have all of the details and reservations planned for us, so that all we had to do was relax and enjoy. I also enjoyed meeting new friends that have similar interests and hobbies."
"Jenn and Julie provide the perfect art experience, whether you are a novice or a more experienced artist. The retreat offers a variety of art techniques, so you are able to practice a variety of styles. Accommodations and food are top-notch in this beautiful and scenic region of Palisade, which is home to many small wineries. The retreat is relaxing and fun. The cost includes everything, so once you are there, all you have to think about is your art and what your next glass of wine might be!"
