Students walk away with a sense of accomplishment and a unique piece of art. All materials are supplied.

Join us to journal the images of your summer. There will be a weekly prompt or theme released on Wednesday of each week via e-mail. You'll have a few days to think about the prompt and gather inspiration and materials. We'll meet via Zoom on Sunday afternoons to do an art journal spread together. Work in your favorite art journal, sketchbook, or loose leaf paper. If you work on paper, you'll have 6 projects at the end to decide how to finish (bind them, frame them, etc.) (Only $4/week)

Develop a love of abstracts through various mixed media art techniques. This course is developed over three weeks to allow time for practice and exploration between sessions. 

Week 1: Mark-Making. Discuss abstract art. Experiment with marks and line work using a variety of tools and supplies. (Think beyond the brush.)

Week 2: Movement and composition. Using simple shapes and pattern, learn how to infuse your art with energy and motion.

Week 3: Color. Discuss using color as a focal point, and how to develop an interesting palette for an abstract. Develop several sketches for the final project. We'll use all our favorite techniques and experiments from the previous sessions to bring the final abstract to life.

Explore watercolor and water-soluble materials to create layers in mixed media art projects. How can you push the boundaries of watercolor? Discover new combinations of color and texture to achieve unique affect in your art. A total of 5 techniques will be utilized through these 2 sessions in a very abstract approach. Participants will use these techniques to create a final art project in Session 2. 


Session 1 (July 7): Color flow, saturation, inky layers, alterations with stamping and stenciling, scribbling and spattering. Make art by combining unique and surprising techniques with mixed media flair.


Session 2 (July 14): sketching quickly with a brush, monochromatic color studies, and creating resists. Participants will do an overview of all techniques and curate favorites into a final collage piece.

Watercolor Bouquets (hosted by Sarah)

Create a special, everlasting bouquet in watercolor. This process starts with rough sketches, then layers color using watercolors. You'll learn how to make your blooms come alive with bold strokes, gentle details and depth of color. Work on heavyweight paper. Finished artwork can be matted and framed to your liking.
